Medicare Annual Election Period (aka Open Enrollment...October 15th - December 7th)
During this time you can change Medicare Advantage plans or Part D drug plans and those changes will start on January 1st of next year. If you have a Medicare Supplement plan (aka Medigap...example Plan F, Plan G, Plan N, etc.) and want to change from one Medicare Supplement to a different Medicare Supplement usually because your premium went up, we will talk about this after the Annual Enrollment Period is over for the sake of time. We can change this kind of plan any time of the year. There are rules that go along with that so we'll talk about that on an individual basis. If you have a Medicare Pard D plan only (not attached to a Medicare Advantage plan) we MUST review your plan by December 7th and make any changes necessary or you may not be able to make another change until next year.
Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (January 1st - March 31st)
The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period is available only if you have an active Medicare Advantage plan. You are allowed to make one (1) change between January 1st and March 31st. You can change from one Medicare Advantage Plan to a different one or from a Medicare Advantage Plan back to Original Medicare and enroll in a stand-alone prescription drug plan (Part D) (most people also buy a Medicare Supplement (aka Medigap plan F, G, or N for example). The plan will start the first day of the following month of when the application is submitted. For example if you enroll in a different Medicare Advantage plan on February 13th, then the new plan will start on March 1st.
